Coaches Report

Swim Trafford has 40-45 swimmers ranging in age from 10-17 & County to British Championship levels. All athletes are aspiring to performance goals based around the Amateur Swimming Association & British Swimming’ competitive calendar.

The squad has experienced many changes over the last season, maybe none more so than a change in coach. However the athletes have been extremely resilient showing strength and competitiveness throughout the changes.

Performances have been outstanding & seen swimmers many step up to the next level of competition, then, not just qualify but excel.

The 2009 Youth (14-17 G & 15-18 B) Regional competition at Liverpool Aquatics was strong, seeing 7 swimmers qualify with 27 events and 1 new National Qualifying Time. Our swimmers ranked highly within the North West, swimmers ranked in events as follows;

2nd within the North West 2 athletes
3rd 1 athlete
4th 2 athletes
5th 2 athletes
6th 1 athlete
8th 3 athletes

The 2009 Age Group (10-14 G & 11-15 B) Regional at Manchester Aquatics demonstrated just how much our Borough squad had developed in depth. New swimmers to Regional competition figured very highly in their first taste of high level racing. We had 16 competing athletes with a massive total of 84 events qualified for. The two weekends saw 6 new National Qualifying Times and 63 new Personal Bests. Again ranking in events was very high and was as follows;

1st 7 athletes
2nd 8 athletes
3rd 4 athletes
4th 3 athletes
5th 7 athletes
6th 3 athletes
7th 6 athletes
8th 3 athletes

The 2009 Youth Nationals we had 4 qualifying swimmers who had 10 total swims which included 1 1500m Open Water event were a 4th place was achieved in a very tough field of athletes.

The 2009 Age Group Nationals we had 4 qualifying swimmers who had 11 total swims with 12 new Personal Bests. The Age Groups Saw Swim Trafford pick up a National Gold, National Bronze & 2 further National final places.

Rankings were as follows;
1st 1 athlete
3rd 1 athlete
6th 1 athlete
7th 1 athlete

Our new season will see youth athletes work towards British Championship Qualifying Times taking place after our Tenerife training camp in spring 2010, and the Age Group swimmers raising the bar once again for more qualifying times at the 2010 Regional & National meets.

Good luck & race tough,
