Since Swim Trafford started training and competing as a team eighteen months ago we have seen some most rewarding results from age groups up to junior levels.
On an overall team review we have won two top winning club trophies, one from the City of Salford and the other from City of Coventry. Also we came in the top six clubs at the Leeds and Manchester Open meet. The highlight for me has been coming 3rd position at the North West Age groups competition held in Manchester in June, beating some of the most recognized clubs in Great Britain, this is a very fine performance.
Our individual swimmers have gained top swimmer status at Leeds, Coventry, Manchester and Northwest region championships.
We have 6 swimmers achieving their National Age Group Qualifying times and one swimmer who has already achieved this 3 times for next years 11 year age group.
As a club we hope to bring back some British medals to Trafford and good luck to all those swimmers who are competing in Sheffield within the next few weeks.
There are certain areas of the swimming programme that must be improved :-
Land-training, which I am looking into at the moment.
There are some swimmers missing parts of the weekly programme which is very important to their development e.g. some morning sessions.
Also recording of times and heart rates needs to improve by 100%.
Swimmers talking before, during and after warm ups is not acceptable you need to get in and start swimming immediately.
Parent support is desperately needed in the mornings especially helping to pull out the 5 lane ropes as I cannot physically do this on my own, at the moment I am continuously relying on the same parents for assistance, SO PLEASE MORE SUPPORT.
Finally I would like to say thank you for all the support I have had over the last eighteen months, especially from Nicola Parks the Competition Secretary and Winifred Woodcock our Team Manager.
Support from Paul my assistant Coach has been fantastic his enthusiasm and willingness to learn is inspiring, so a big thank you for being such a great assistant.
2007 will be the year when we see new talent creeping in to the team so all swimmers be on your guard and never be happy with your performance as there is always something you can improve on.
All the best and I look forward to taking Swim Trafford into 2007 and beyond.
